Looking at them more closely it seems that the distortion mod and the lighthouse don't seem worth getting for detection purposes. Both are limited to either a ship or a planet, reduce your own stealth, etc. They are cheaper than the next scanner tech but not enough to serve as a cost effective stop gap for industrials even. (well maybe, been getting research races lately so not tried it)
Now the lighthouse has other vital aspects (speed and planet drive) which are quite useful, in fact so much so that one wishes the lighthouse DIDN'T reduce stealth as that is of such low value as to be more of a negative! I would willingly pay MORE RP for a lighthouse without the anti-stealth feature.
Which brings me to the dist mod that inspired this post. It is useless junk, right?
