Ship names are attributed automatically, and can be changed by the player.
Which is a good design.
Ship names are not visible to other players, which is also a good thing (though one may wonder if allies should also not be able to see the ship's name).
Ship design names are chosen by the player, and visible to the other players.
Which is a good thing imho.
Since there are no rules for naming ship designs, in the current (28th) MP game, BlueAward quite cleverly named all his designs " " (with I guess a different number of spaces).
This to mess with our minds, and to make analysis of his fleets way more difficult.
It's a good idea, and entirely his right.
Problem is that since it's a competitive advantage, it becomes nearly mandatory for players to do so (only my stubbornness prevented me to copy his naming scheme).
Which, actually, makes the game more tedious and less enjoyable.
Could there be a possibility to list enemy ship designs (in a fifth column in the Design Panel I'd say, next to "monsters") ?
And to be able to rename them according to our preferences, so that a clever hack like BlueAward's wouldn't work anymore ?
